The sleep of a 2-month-old baby
Two months is when something unlocks. Not sleep itself — nights stay broken — but the internal clock, which finally starts running.
Around six to eight weeks, your baby starts producing their own melatonin. In practice, their longest stretch of sleep moves into the night. This is often the month of the first slightly long night, the one you are still talking about three years later.
A word of caution though: one good night does not mean it is settled. With my second, the first five-hour night came at seven weeks — the next one three weeks later. That is normal, and it helps to know it in advance.

Evening crying peaks now
Around six weeks, many babies cry in the late afternoon with no identifiable cause, sometimes for an hour or two at a stretch. It is not a sleep problem, and it is not your fault either. The peak is at its highest around six weeks and then declines clearly until three or four months. Knowing the curve comes back down helps you get through it.
